Rainbow Bridge Society

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! They are staring! And this pet suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

What Is the Rainbow Bridge Society?

St. Hubert’s Giralda Animal Welfare Center created the Rainbow Bridge Society to ensure that our commitment to care for our animal friends will be carried out until that need no longer exists. Inspired by the heartfelt images rendered in the story of the Rainbow Bridge, members of this Society help to maintain our programs in perpetuity through a variety of planned giving opportunities.

Whether it is through a bequest, charitable remainder trust, a gift of life insurance, or some other means of planned giving, Society member contributions help ensure that St. Hubert’s programs can continue to thrive for years to come. Your help means that the many thousands of animals we will serve in the future can be guaranteed a better chance for a life filled with love and companionship.

What Programs Does the Rainbow Bridge Society Support?

Founded in 1939, St. Hubert’s Giralda is a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating the suffering and neglect of companion animals. Our services support the human-animal bond and seek to foster an environment in which people respect all living creatures.

    These services include:

Pet Adoption is a model program that saves thousands of lives each year by uniting homeless pets with new, loving and responsible owners.

Animal Rescue and Control is a lifeline to animals who are lost, abandoned or injured by providing them with safe refuge and compassionate care in St. Hubert’s shelters located in Madison and North Branch, New Jersey.

Humane Education provides extensive and innovative programs which foster humane attitudes in young people and adults.

Paws for People is an animal-assisted therapy program consisting of volunteer teams of trained people and pets who regularly visit children and adults confined to hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Dog Training offers all levels of obedience training designed to enhance the relationship between people and their canine companions.

Pet Loss Therapy offers support, understanding and guidance to those grieving over the loss of a beloved pet.

    St. Hubert's Pet Guardian Program

Deciding who will ensure that your pet is loved and cared for when you are no longer able to do so is an important decision.  If there is no one who can accept the responsibility, you may wish to choose St. Hubert's as your pet's guardian.

St. Hubert's Pet Guardian Program will ensure that your pets' physical and emotional well being will always be the primary factor in deciding their future.  Choosing St. Hubert's as your pets' guardian is a sure sign of love for you pet and trust in St. Hubert's.

In planning the future for your pet, we recommend that you consult with an attorney to ensure that your wishes are accurately prepared and implemented.

    Wills and Bequests

Since her childhood, Geraldine R. Dodge was moved by the plight of homeless and neglected animals. In establishing St. Hubert’s Giralda, she created a safe refuge for animals in need which has had a positive impact on the lives of both pets and people for more than half a century.

Mrs. Dodge created a legacy of love and support for those creatures who touched her heart by bequesting funds to ensure the future of this organization.

While income from that bequest continues to support some of our work, our needs have grown tremendously since 1973 when that gift was made. To maintain the exceptional quality and high standards of St. Hubert’s programs into the future, we are asking for your support in a manner many of us do not like to think about–remembering St. Hubert’s in your will.

In the same way you provide security for your family members when you are no longer able to personally do so, you can continue to support St. Hubert’s ongoing work through mentioning us in your will.

If you have questions about making a bequest to St. Hubert’s Giralda, please call us at (973) 377-4972.

    Notes

Because St. Hubert’s is a charitable organization, a bequest may entitle your estate to a tax deduction for the full value of the bequest, thus minimizing the tax burden that might fall upon your heirs. Please be sure to consult your tax advisor for further details.

A specific bequest provision requires very simple language:

"I hereby give and devise to St. Hubert’s Giralda, located at 575 Woodland Avenue in Madison, New Jersey ($_______) or (_______% of the residue of my estate), to be used by the said organization to further its goals and objectives in ensuring animal welfare and promoting humane values."

We recommend that you consult with a lawyer when executing a charitable bequest in order to ensure that your wishes are accurately prepared and carried out.
